At Peel Best Pharmacy, you can walk in any time during our hours — no appointment, no referral, no wait at a walk-in clinic. Bring your Ontario health card and we will have you vaccinated in minutes.

We carry the standard quadrivalent influenza vaccine as well as the high-dose formulation (Fluzone High-Dose) recommended by NACI for adults 65 and older. Both are covered by OHIP at no out-of-pocket cost.

Who Should Get a Flu Shot?

NACI recommends influenza vaccination for everyone aged 6 months and older. It is especially important for these groups:

Adults 65 and Older

Higher risk of serious flu complications. High-dose formulation available for enhanced protection.

Pregnant Women

Safe and recommended during any trimester. Protects both mother and newborn.

Children 6 Months and Older

Children under 5 are at higher risk. Two doses may be needed for first-time recipients.

Chronic Health Conditions

Diabetes, asthma, heart disease, kidney disease, or immunocompromised — flu can worsen underlying conditions.

Healthcare Workers

When to Get Your Flu Shot

October–November (Ideal)

Getting vaccinated before flu season peaks gives your body two weeks to develop full immunity before December, when influenza activity typically increases in Ontario.

December–February (Still Worthwhile)

Even during peak season, getting vaccinated provides meaningful protection. Flu activity can continue into March and April in Ontario.

Two Weeks to Full Protection

After vaccination, it takes approximately 14 days for antibodies to reach protective levels. You may still catch the flu during this window, but the vaccine reduces severity.

Can I get a flu shot while pregnant?

Yes. The flu vaccine is safe and recommended during any trimester of pregnancy. It protects both the mother and the newborn (who cannot be vaccinated until 6 months of age). Our pharmacist can administer the injection during a walk-in visit.

Can I get the flu shot and COVID booster on the same day?

Yes. Current NACI guidelines allow co-administration of the flu vaccine and updated COVID-19 vaccine in the same visit — one in each arm. Our pharmacist can administer both during a single walk-in appointment.

When is the best time to get a flu shot?

Ideally in October or November, before flu season peaks (typically December through February in Ontario). However, getting vaccinated later in the season still provides protection. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for full immunity to develop.

What are the side effects of the flu vaccine?

Common side effects include mild soreness at the injection site, low-grade fever, and body aches lasting 1–2 days. Serious side effects are extremely rare. The flu vaccine cannot give you the flu — it contains inactivated virus or recombinant proteins.

Is the high-dose flu vaccine available at Peel Best Pharmacy?

Yes. We carry the high-dose influenza vaccine (Fluzone High-Dose) recommended for adults 65 and older. It contains four times the antigen of the standard vaccine for stronger immune response in seniors. Covered by OHIP through the UIIP.
