Under Ontario's Minor Ailments program, our pharmacists can assess diaper rash and prescribe the most appropriate treatments — including prescription-strength barrier creams, topical antifungals for yeast-related diaper rash (Candida), and mild topical corticosteroids.
Our pharmacists will assess the appearance of the rash to distinguish between a straightforward irritant diaper rash and a yeast (Candida) infection, which has a distinct appearance and requires antifungal treatment. We will counsel you on diaper changing frequency, barrier cream application, and other strategies to prevent recurrence.
For persistent, worsening, or spreading diaper rashes — especially those extending beyond the diaper area, with signs of bacterial infection (pus, fever), or not improving after several days of treatment — a family doctor assessment is recommended.
