TB testing detects exposure to tuberculosis. It may be required for immigration applications (particularly for countries like the USA, UK, Australia, and Canada), employment screening, healthcare worker clearance, and other purposes. The TB skin test (also called the Mantoux test or tuberculin skin test/TST) involves a small injection of tuberculin under the skin of your forearm. You return 48–72 hours later for a physician to read the result by measuring any raised area (induration) at the injection site. A positive result means you may have been exposed to TB at some point; it does not mean you have active TB disease. For the TB skin test (TST), results are read 48–72 hours after injection — you must return to our clinic for the reading. IGRA blood test results typically come back from the laboratory within 3–5 business days. A positive TB test result means you have been exposed to Mycobacterium tuberculosis at some point — it does not necessarily mean you have active TB disease.
