Mental Health Medications We Carry
We stock the full range of psychiatric medication classes. Most are available same-day. ODB coverage noted where applicable.
SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors)
Fluoxetine (Prozac), Sertraline (Zoloft), Escitalopram (Cipralex), Citalopram (Celexa)
First-line treatment for depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, and PTSD. Generally well tolerated, with a slow onset of 2–4 weeks to full effect. Most patients will notice initial improvements in sleep and energy before mood lifts.
SNRIs (Serotonin-Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors)
Venlafaxine (Effexor XR), Duloxetine (Cymbalta), Desvenlafaxine (Pristiq)
Effective for depression, generalized anxiety, panic disorder, and chronic pain conditions. Venlafaxine requires careful tapering to avoid discontinuation syndrome — never stop abruptly. Our pharmacist can guide safe tapering schedules.
Anxiolytics & Sleep Medications
Buspirone, Hydroxyzine (Atarax), Zopiclone, Clonazepam (monitoring required)
Used for short-term anxiety relief and insomnia. Buspirone and hydroxyzine are non-habit-forming options. Benzodiazepines (clonazepam, lorazepam) are effective but require careful monitoring due to dependence risk — our pharmacist reviews these routinely.
Mood Stabilizers
Lithium, Valproate (Epival), Lamotrigine (Lamictal)
Used in bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, and as augmentation in treatment-resistant depression. Lithium and valproate require regular blood level monitoring. Our pharmacist tracks lab requirements and flags missed monitoring.
Antipsychotics (Atypical)
Quetiapine (Seroquel), Risperidone, Aripiprazole (Abilify), Olanzapine (Zyprexa)
Used for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and as adjunct therapy for treatment-resistant depression. Metabolic side effects (weight gain, glucose changes) are common — our pharmacist monitors these and advises on management strategies.
ADHD Medications
Methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta), Amphetamine salts (Adderall XR), Atomoxetine (Strattera)
Stimulant medications (methylphenidate, amphetamine salts) are controlled substances requiring triplicate prescriptions in Ontario. Atomoxetine is a non-stimulant alternative. Our pharmacist handles controlled substance dispensing with full discretion and counsels on proper use and storage.
Mental Health Pharmacy Services at Peel Best
Confidential & Discreet Dispensing
All prescriptions are dispensed with complete privacy. Our pharmacy counter is designed for discreet conversations, and we never discuss your medications in earshot of others. Mental health prescriptions are treated with the same confidentiality as any other medication.
Side-Effect Counselling
Starting a new antidepressant or antipsychotic can be daunting. Our pharmacists explain what to expect — including initial side effects that often resolve within 2 weeks, how long before therapeutic effects are felt, and which side effects warrant contacting your doctor.
Drug Interaction Review
Mental health medications have numerous potential interactions — including with supplements, antihistamines, and pain medications. We review your full medication list at every fill to identify and flag interactions before they cause problems.
Blister Packs for Complex Regimens
Many patients on multiple psychiatric medications benefit from blister packaging. We sort medications by day and time — morning, noon, evening, and bedtime doses — in weekly or bi-weekly packs. Our blister packing service is free for qualifying patients.
MedsCheck for Patients on 3+ Medications
If you take three or more prescription medications, you qualify for a funded MedsCheck review. Our pharmacist sits down with you to review every medication, identify adherence barriers, check for interactions, and ensure your regimen makes sense as a whole.
Home Delivery Available
For patients who prefer privacy or have difficulty getting to the pharmacy, we offer free prescription delivery in Mississauga. Medications are packaged discreetly with no identifying information visible on the exterior of the delivery package.
